"The government" is "we, the people." The democratic primary right now is a decision between maintaining the current system or moving further towards socialism. Every election is an ideological playoff and socialism has reached "The Final Four" for the first time. It'll probably flame out, but clearly it is an idea on the rise here.

It isn't about "fault" and there isn't a bed of roses to land in. It's more of a guaranteed basement that many people today already never reach.

Socialism got taken to the final four by idiots and the portion of my generation that gives us all a bad name.

Yes. Folks could completely render socialism obsolete. They aren't. I think part of it is structural, and "out of sight, out of mind." By putting in a government structure, you can reduce waste from predatory elements. Example: insurance and pharmaceutical companies. The US pays more per patient right now than any country in the world for not even top 10 health outcomes. There are a lot of people making fortunes off of what would be considered price-gouging anywhere else. The entire system needs to be overhauled. There are three ways being batted around to do it: (1) tiny incremental changes- H. Clinton, (2) double down on free market, go back to the system where prices were growing fastest, and deregulate as much as possible, end Obamacare- Republicans, or (3) do what works in the rest of the western world- Sanders.

I know which one I'm thinking we should try-- the new option.

Its a risk some have no business taking regardless of the basement depth. If you can't afford to lose something don't put it on the table

You mean shift the waste from entity to another.

You've gone full on silly. Might as well make it entertaining while you have your ivory tower parade about theoretical absurdities and such.

Agreed. We, as a species, have significant growth ahead before a pure socialist system could work. I want it, too, but human nature is not yet ready. And we appear to be nowhere close to getting there.

You can see a lot of East Tn from up there.

That set of towers at the point overlooking Kingsport was my location.

Should I take that ivory tower comment as personal, or was it a general "pointy-headed" remark?

I just figured a tower had to be more than a single story. Or ivory be at least white.

We're animals. Super-intelligent comparatively, and equipped with nifty opposable thumbs, but animals nonetheless. We remain closer to wolves than we do the humans in Roddenberry's vision. I hope our species makes it there down the line, but we have a great distance to cover.

There are animals that are more social and egalitarian than we are. Cetaceans, naked mole rats, etc.
