Maybe true. But, blanket immunity during his tenure there? Hard to believe, this early.

Why would ncaa care so much about burying Tyndall?

He's not exactly a household name. I'd never heard of the goofy **** until we hired him.

Plus he's just the kind of coach that they flex their muscle at every once in a while at, just to show that they still have a little bit of power.

Need to crush Tyndall and Southern Miss in an effort to counterbalance the effects of eventually letting UNC and Roy completely off the hook.

Pretty much it. Same way Pearl was a misdirect off of Cam Newton.

Didn't know that was a thing, interesting.

Speculation, of course. But Tennessee seems to be the NCAA's whipping boy when a big boy team is in trouble.

Yeah, what's that old joke? The NCAA got so mad at Kentucky that they are going to give Cleveland State 2 years more of probation. Same rule applies here.....

Comparing UNC's stature in basketball to Auburn's in football is a pretty big stretch.

They were on their way to an NCAA championship that year, with Newton winning a Heisman.

Fair enough. I still don't know that the two situations are all that comparable. If the NCAA had what it needed to burn Auburn they would have. The NCAA, as we all know, has been effectively neutered and if UNC gets off or punished lightly, that's the main reason.

They had what they needed to burn Oregon and chose not to do so.

They didn't want to basically invalidate an entire season of football by ruling Newton ineligible, so they just acted like nothing was wrong. Auburn goes 7-5 that season and Cam/Auburn get treated much differently.

You're right. We should just end this conversation, as the whole thing revolves around the assumption that the NCAA has any consistent standards, which they don't.
