It didn't get the kind of coverage this is, but it definitely got a mention on the national news once.

When murder suspects are arrested, cases tend not to get so high profile.

Yes, it was on the national news. Besides, people, especially white people who are treating this incident as if it occurred in a vacuum, aren't really understanding why this is a big deal. The protests are in relation to what black people feel is a systematic problem, not a simple, isolated case of injustice for a 17 year old kid. Somehow, this case got highlighted in people's consciousness, probably because it was such an egregious example of the situation black people are pissed about.

So, in that way, you can see why the Knoxville murders aren't conveying the same outrage. I mean, who are people going to protest, sociopathic killers? Not a whole lot of controversy in whether or not to arrest them or a demonstration of a systematic flaw in our society. They're just psychopaths who got arrested and deserved it. Not much else to it and not any reason to have any outrage, just disgust and a desire to see them properly punished.

Beyond any of that, there is the simple fact that those Knoxville killers are sitting in jail for the rest of their lives while Zimmerman hasn't even been charged with anything.

Uni, it's also easy ratings. A 17 year old is possibly a victim of a hate crime? Let's plaster that everywhere and get people watching.

Well didn't the police send the narcotics squad first rather than homicide? Or was hatvol talking about something else.

If that is true then I would say its fair to say the police force in that town are in fact racist.

"Trayvon Martin said something to the effect of you're going to die now or you're going to die tonight, something to that effect," Robert Zimmerman told Orlando news station WOFL. "He continued to beat George. At some point, George pulled his pistol. Did what he did."

"He was punched in the nose. His nose was broken," Robert Zimmerman said. "He was knocked to the concrete. Trayvon Martin got on top of him and just started beating him. In the face. In his nose, hitting his head on the concrete."

"The injuries that made it sound as though he really should have been on a stretcher are not apparent in this tape at all," said Marcia Clark, the former prosecutor in the O.J. Simpson trial. "He moves freely. He moves fluidly, not like someone who has just been through a beating in anyway shape or form, someone's whose head has been pounded on the pavement as hard as described, someone who's nose was broken and bleeding. That tells you a great deal."

I agree with clark, but it would seem to be a pretty stupid thing to say if it wasn't true since it's rather easy to see if he has a broken nose or not.

lets face facts here. the reason this is as big of an issue as it is, is due to the media feeding this and making it into a racial issue. plain and simple.

the black "leaders" going crazy makes it a spectacle and it's an otherwise slow news period. not surprising it's gotten so much coverage.

Robert Zimmerman is Bob Dylan's real name, FYI.

His nose wasn't broken. He refused medical treatment and had no facial bruising afterward.

Several crusty boogers were snapped right in half. Gruesome.

I tend to think someone shooting an unarmed man and not getting arrested for it due to "self defense" would warrant some level of media attention even in the absence of racial undertones.

How can you be sure that there are not racist elements at play?

Yes, they're going crazy over this while ignoring that 95% of black murders are perpetrated by other blacks not whites. They're looking for attention for themselves, nothing more.

What % of those black murders result in not even arresting the suspect when he is apprehended at the scene?

it would warrent media attention, but no where near the level we are seeing.

hard to know what is in a guy's heart. i find it hard to believe he just gunned down this kid for just walking down the street wearing a hoodie as many are saying. guys a bit of a wackjob. he probably would have followed a lot of people.

    Most likely next to none.

unique case certainly. outside of domestic situations how many times is the suspect still around by the time the cops come?

    Very, very, very few.

Racism doesn't necessarily mean blatantly targeting someone due to race. He may have been more defensive/suspicious due to race. Had martin been a white guy in a polo, he might leave him alone.

And then he might not. Again, the black leaders see this as a publicity opportunity. This situation is an anomaly, not the norm. If these people that are raising hell about this really cared about the average black man, they'd be preaching and working to keep blacks from killing each other. It's fake outrage to get on camera.
