Bringing in Helfrich now so that when we fire Jones after the bowl game, Chip Kelly is ready to come right in and hit the ground running, already got his OC.

It's a half-measure. AD doesn't want to fire Butch, but people are mad. Maybe throwing them an OC and some position coaches will keep them at bay until he's gone.

If this happens, and I have no knowledge about that other than what is in this thread, it is yet another weak-assed, poor management non-decision in a long string of the same within UTAD.

Try having inlaws and stepkids from Omaha. You might see things differently. They are already trash talking...DAILY. I want to win the bowl AND get rid of Butch. Hey, it's Christmas, I can ask for whatever I want.

 

UT admin allowing Butch to bring in Helfrich to be the head coach in waiting when Butch is fired next year.

I can see the administration being enamored with Butch. I'm guessing they look at coaches differently than fans. Butch is a good ambassador, seems like a decent family man, graduates the players he doesn't run off, etc. Only negative being his part in the "rape settlement". All that being said, is there a chance the administration and BOT pressure newly hired Blackburn to extent Butch? Is that plausible, or am I totally misreading our upper administration?

 

I don't think Blackburn would accept the job, if they were going to force him to do that

 

The majority of Butch's backers turned on him when he pulled his chickenshit stunt after the Vandy game, hanging the players out to dry because he pouted and stomped off stage.

They're giving him another year to hang himself because they've allowed a lame duck AD to hang around and they have just now decided on a Chancellor. They also want to vote her in before they name an AD to keep up that academics are more important than athletics. They assumed Butch could win for another year or two before this became an issue, they were wrong

 

Devils advocate, what does it matter to him, he has the backing of those above him and if Butch flames out in another 2-3 years then he gets to make his first hire then. You know the fan base is dumb enough to give him another 2-3 years if they sell it right. "Improved staff", continuity, Butch thoroughly inspecting the program from top to bottom, etc.

 

Helfrich will have some other interest for the same position. I wouldn't count that chicken just yet.

 

True. Its something you don't want hanging over you when you go to replace him.

The elite coaches want a clear path to make or break. They know they are good, they just need you not to get in their way.

 

So we're gonna buy out the coaching contracts of the guys leaving this year, then next year we're going to turn around and buyout the contracts of the new coaches coming in? Again it appears to be much cheaper buying out the asshat today.

 

Essentially trading one yes man (Debord) for another...
