http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/tv-ratings-olympic-competition-opens-917873 I'll assume we recognize that this isn't good.
A few things stand out, though. 1. A lot of people are still watching. 2. They expect the numbers to go "likely upward" as they adjust. 3. "It will be some time before it's clear how much of a lift NBC is getting from streaming, but early indicators (i.e. data released from coverage of the Opening Ceremony) also have online views up considerably this Olympics."
It's the streaming that makes this work. I suspect it's about people at work relieving boredom. They aren't generating the viewership that lets the ads pay the $1.2 billion that they've garnered on paper. I don't know the online payment streams, but I posted a couple of days ago that it's the way they make this work. Any revisions upward are minor. Nielsen will revise the ultimate revenues from the ad sales. And screw Comcast.
I haven't watched, only read stories. I don't feel a lot of enthusiasm for events that the locals didn't want. Brazil couldn't afford this.
On TV its non-stop commercials (worse than an SEC game on CBS). When I stream I constantly get kicked from the feed. I still watch because of the wife and good background TV, but NBC isn't remotely attempting to make it an easy or enjoyable experience.
All commercials and main host babbling about feel good stories. Shut up and show players. The US centric makes sense, but I still want go watch other teams too.
Yeah King was no-nonsense about the filing issue and delivered an f you in the pool. That was quality TV.
Between Phelps and King the outside the pool drama has raised intrest. I thought it was funny that Phelps kinda blew it off in the interview. Hopefully he closes the deal.
