He kicked Butch's ass. Hard.

And Butch kicked Spurrier's ass. Twice. Also fact.

 

If Wilcox had stayed, Dooley probably wins 8 or 9.

 

As hard as I've tried not to, I've come around to the conclusion that Butch gives a shit & really puts in effort. He's just dumb and his ego is too big to admit that.

 

Dooley downgraded massively from Wilcox to Sunseri, that's on him.

Jones upgraded from Jancek to Shoop.

We don't really hear much about players doing knucklehead shit under Jones. APR rose from the gutter. He's at the very least helped recruit some high level talent and restored the roster.

Dooley didn't take a single lineman in a recruiting cycle. That's insane.

Butch is average, he is what he is but things are still much better under him than they ever were under Dooley, at every level.

 

He genuinely cares and he works his ass off, but like you said, he's really stupid.

If he were to hire an OC and stay the hell out of the way, he could win a lot here. Go recruit, go keep donors happy, go preach "grit" and "resiliency" and stay the hell out of game planning.

 

Dooley couldn't get anyone worth a shit to come here because everyone knew, except a portion of the fanbase, he was a lame duck. Tennessee's biggest mistake was letting the little bastard stay after trying to get his buyout after the 2011 UK game.

 

You're right, things are better. Not improved enough to return Tennessee to elite status and not bad enough to get fired before I'm 30, that's why I hate the m'fer.

 

I cannot be convinced that there is anything football related that Dooley knows more about than Butch, except for maybe washing your balls.

 

If he hired a real OC and played GM I'd stfu about him. He won't though.

There is a standard issue with UT, it's within the AD and the fan base. I agree on the that.
