The only hope I have is that he wasn't actually calling plays at Georgia, and that his defenses improved from year-to-year in Cincy.
Stripling is a damn good coach imo. I can't say that for any of the other defensive coaches. Thigpen is a good recruiter but his on the field product isn't great.
And if his group can consistently play at a high level, it will make everyone else look a lot better too. Is been years since we've had great d-line play consistently.
Parys Haralson-49ers for 7 years Justin Harrell-4 years with Packers Jesse Mahelona-3 seasons with 3 different teams Kevin Simon-drafted 7th round Omar Gaither-7 seasons with 4 teams Jason Allen-7 seasons with 3 teams Jonathan Wade-6 season 4 teams Turk McBride-8 seasons 4 teams Jonathon Hefney-3 seasons 3 teams Jason Hall-1 season NFL Pretty stout
We may have had the best defense in the country in 2005. Our offense was atrocious and left them on the field all game, yet they still were statistically in the top 10 in the end. 6-3 to Bama. WTF.
Teams also didn't have to take any risks whatsoever against the D too. Score 7 points and then milk the clock.
Doesn't matter now but imagine how different our season would have been last year if we had an average defense. Nothing great or good...just average. Our offense averaged around 36 ppg last season while our defense average giving up around 35 ppg.
The thought of that sorry jackwagon excuse for a human being much less a coach still being at UT makes me violently nauseous. I also find myself contemplating assault on everyone responsible if it were true.
I don't think Thigpen is an outstanding coach but I have seen him coach and he does have the ability to get guys pumped up and playing hard. That alone is an upgrade from years past.
