    If that were true, yes.

    True story:
    I renovated & lived in my grandparents' house the first 6 years of marriage. During the renovations, I discovered the kitchen sink drained slow at times. Nothing fixed it. While tracing the drain line down, I discovered the problem: running water was a late addition & they just ran a pipe into a wet weather creek bed. I fixed that immediately.

    Such used to be common.

    Probably happened in the '30s. The outhouse was still standing when i lived there. All other drains went to a septic tank. It was just the kitchen sink that did that.

    My grandmother's ran to an old cellar that held water better than one of our ponds when I was a kid. I'm not sure when the kitchen was piped for water. It was the only room that had water. I lived there when I was little up until I was 8 or so.
