I cannot tell you how much my inner (and outer) tax nerd hopes they release all of Trump's returns. All of them. Every partnership, corp, trust, anything. I want to see them.

I'll say that they should only release them if there is some reason to in the public interest. Which I couldn't say if that is the case

Neither, just what they look like. You still wouldn't be able to tell what actually is there there without seeing the underlying stuff. Just because he may have massive losses doesn't necessarily means its not legit. It may be. It may not be. You'd have to dig much deeper for that.

only thing this has verified for me is 99% of the population doesn't realize how income taxes work

 

Look at this 1%er self reporting

 

If I have to read another person claiming that getting a 5mil refund is "free money" I might jump out a window. I'm sure he has a lot of creative accounting going on in there and probably isn't 100% by the book, but you can't get refunded for more than you paid.

 

I think a lot of people think income taxes are the only taxes

And if the government lets you keep more of your own money, you’re taking from the government.

Not for someone like Trump. There's not very many refundable credits and you have to be pretty damn poor to net positive on income tax.
