Old? Richt is what 55? I believe the difference (Fulmer's age at time of his firing and Richt's) is 2 maybe 3yrs
True, Fulmer did become somewhat complacent and though a talented recruiter this area suffered as well becoming inconsistent however, most damning was losing Cut that exposed him. Wheels slowly began to come off
It wasn't "somewhat" it was full blown don't give a shit on the recruiting front. He went off Rivals 100 evaluations towards the end and didn't put in the legwork to properly vet guys he was bringing in on scholarship.
"Somewhat complacent" as in overall job function and that was being nice, followed by "recruiting suffered as well" Fulmer's decline began when Cut left, slow erosion at first that inevitably gained momentum. Still, there were some good classes, inconsistent but good. '00-'02 classes were Top 3, '03's class dropped to #9, '04 and '05 classes were back in the Top 5, '06-'07 Top 10-12 and '08's class was a Top 20 I believe. True, as time went on class integrity suffered from poor character choices For Fulmer, it seemed to me, that the "fire in the belly" had become smoldering embers
I was going by memory (really missed on '08's class lol), still there's the inconsistency that I spoke to 247 '99 #1 '00 #1 '01 #4 '02 #3 '03 #10 '04 #11 '05 #3 '06 #18 '07 #3 '08 #34
Yep, esp the mid-to-latter yrs, to be fair Kiffin didn't fare well either when it came to character. And the there's the anti-recruiter
Yep. Though not sure as to why the disparity between rivals and 247 w/ '03 and '04, even '06 but not as distinct
The number of 4&5 star commits that either never made it here or never accomplished anything is staggering.
And the sign and places. Robert Ayers, Demonte Bolden and Walter Fisher were in two classes each. It took Gerald Williams three tries
