Agreed. Awesome place. I just go to the other place for comedic purposes. It also makes me appreciate the 8th that much more seeing how those poor saps live.

This place has proven that meaningful and serious discussion between intelligent adults doesn't need heavy handed moderation. Those that can't handle discussing opposing viewpoints tend to weed themselves out without mod intervention.

Thanks, Jay. I appreciate the sentiment, I really do - but they've got a great many things right, too, and their 45K members speaks to that.

But we're not like them, and truthfully, many many more people prefer that type of experience than ours. Far fewer people like to discuss weighty or uncomfortable things, and in a forum which provides (practically compels, even) he raw honesty which is so often evidenced here, but to blather and banter and be merely entertained, instead.

That doesnt make one good and the other bad, just different.

I understand the modesty TD, but I have to disagree. That place has become infested with idiocy and childishness. There are a few good posters over there, but the number of folks that think they know everything but really don't know shit far outnumbers them. Just calling it as I see it.

 

this. Same thing with the zone. I used to post in there all the time, but now the clutter keeps me out. I'll go over there some late nights to talk with Sly, Behr, and a few others, but i can't stand it for the most part anymore.

Yes, indeed. Well played, sir. It's no where near CT yet, but it appears to be headed in that direction. The thing that makes CT so bad is the mods think of themselves as Gods and a few posters are allowed to run rampant spewing ignorant bullshizz.

 

I trust your opinion and believe it, without hesitation. That was the main reason we started this site. The mods were a close second.

The decision to leave caused a senseless rift between us, and which fixated our attention on them and removed it from what we were doing here, where it rightfully belonged, instead. And I was the chief amongst sinners in perpetuating it. So now, with the benefit of some perspective, I just try to think / believe the best about them, and wish them well.

I will say this - and neither to condemn nor condone - it is impossible to get that many people together without a healthy dose of idiots being also included. But you don't have to embrace and institutionalize it, as they seem to have done, at least to some. They are incapable of preventing the former, but culpable for the latter, and where they allowed that faction to take the board.

So, while I accept and very much appreciate the compliment, I just thought I'd better identify and explain my intentional avoidance of the vitriol which so consumed us early on, and which nearly threatened to define us.

Those guy are not mean, bad and evil, nor are they any less intelligent or sincere in their loyalty to that site than we are to ours (although we tend to be less insistent upon exclusive relationships - we're sluts, I suppose).

Lots of them visit here, either as posters or just routine lurkers (proxy IP's aren't nearly as difficult to discern as I once believed), but they are as welcome to be here as anyone else, in whatever capacity or openness they may most prefer.

 

I will also add this - the percentage of closeted homosexuals here is definitely above average.

At least that's what [MENTION=48]NYYVol[/MENTION] continues to be hopeful of.

 

As a general rule, I distrust any site that allows god-like mods / admins.

Believing that the bestowing of a "Mod" e-title somehow conveys some higher degree of intelligence on the person is akin to believing that the opinions of sports media members are somehow more prescient or valuable than that of the average fan.

With Basilio possibly being the notable exception, you can't listen to more than a single hour of local sports radio where the host(s) don't make this failed assumption and revert to becoming condescending - or even outright insulting - of any caller with an entirely valid opinion, albeit different than their own.

 

She's right though. "sunshine pumpers" and "negavols" are pretty much the same kind of person, they just stand in opposition over an opinion.

The mods on CT are ridiculous. Think Hyams. They are constantly starting threads like VG started. After a [ock cay] loss they create a vent.thread. You can make negative comments about the game for one day in that thread, but you cannot after that day.
