    Kate Spade committed suicide today.

I had no idea who she was until 3 hours ago, but assume I've given her money at some point.

edit - not my wife's style. Have not given her any money.

    Anthony Bourdain killed himself.

Tough news. That guy seemed to have a very enjoyable life.

wow. I don't know his situation, but that is the insidiousness of depression. Normal people will look at your life and go why are you so depressed? But to the depressed, it is all just a black cloud.

Again, id be willing to bet xanax or other antipsychotic pills were prescribed and taken.

Do you think the rate of suicide is higher in this population than the population that is clinically depressed but has not taken the medication?

Yes I do believe there is a direct correlation to suicide and manic thoughts and actions with those taking antipsychotic meds and always have.
When "suicidal thoughts" is listed as a potential side effect, it means studies showed patients thought about killing themselves after taking the drug.

And personal experience, ive told the story about my sister. She went thru breast cancer and depression. Was on 5 meds and called me a couple times in a dark place.
Changed doctors, stopped psych meds, added a med to control hormones and shes great now. Pissed at her old doctor.

I read an article about him last month. He talked about how much he enjoyed his life. His crew was a very close family. He adored his 11 year old daughter and cherished the time he spent with her. It is hard to understand.

No, it isn’t. It isn’t even a good one.

It’s anecdotal, at best, and fundamentally flawed, at worst.

Suggesting that the listing of “suicidal thoughts” as a side effect is to be accurately interpreted as being indicative of a highly frequent and pervasive condition that affects any user of the drug, with either any consistency or likeliness, or even a significant portion of them, is to misunderstand why side effects are listed.
