Mars also has wind, and while the atmosphere is less dense it could contribute even at night. solar as a backbone with storage, supplement with wind. Could use subterranean chambers for water and energy storage by pumping water to upper chambers in the day and letting it drain through turbines at night.

Huh? He has a luxury car. A luxury SUV. And then the $40k Model 3.

How is a $40k fully electric car not an affordable electric?

But you don't need storage, necessarily, if you drop panels around the circumference of the planet, as no part would ever be in darkness. And since there are no oceans, chaining them together is also easier.

he said affordable car. not affordable electric car. that's what he's been saying he will do all along. build cars that compete with traditional cars affordably. it's still a luxury item that most people can't afford.

I believe we see it in the next year or 2, though maybe not from tesla. electric cars are poised to become even more main stream.

Electric cars are cheap to build outside the battery. Battery costs are on a steep decline curve so cost improvements will continue to be realized at a healthy pace. Rapidly scaling EVs would put pressure back on cost of batteries so there is a natural pace that has to be maintained. But the supply chain is rapidly expanding
