Seeing people openly cheer for Le Pen makes me wonder how close we are to people returning to being openly racist.
By the way, don't assume this proves France has dealt with their racism problem. Le Pen lost this time. It's not unthinkable she, another National Front politician, or someone else running on a similar platform wins in the future. Le Pen's economic views reflect insanity. If Macron sucks at his job, which is a strong possibility, and another racist politician runs with relatively sane economic views, an angry population could support him/her.
Le Pen was eyeing victory in the next election, but found unexpected success this time around. Don't count her out - particularly as you say if the Macron experiment fails.
France faces a lot of issues with Muslims that we don't deal with over here. I think if they would at least halfway integrate with the French lifestyle rather than trying to force their ways on the French, someone like Le Pen wouldn't even exist.
I thought I read the election was between le pen and Merkel, and that this was very clever? Was this not the case?
France has the opposite problem, they are so worried about appearing "racist", they are willing to commit cultural suicide to prove it.
