I hate to be that guy, but I sure as heck wish my mom was still around to tell me who had died lately whether they were no count or otherwise.

Practically speaking, I do miss those conversations. The vast majority of them were nearly identical to Card's, but at least I occasionally got news that I was interested in. My problem was she'd call right off and tell me about someone I met once at the hospital where she worked back in 1979 or thereabout, but then tell me three weeks after the funeral that one of my youth football coaches had passed.

 

Yup. If it's someone I know or legitimately care about, she'll never tell me.

Thought I was going to have a laid back day in the office today before getting into time off for the holidays. Text this morning from an employee that is now going to be out for an extended, yet undetermined, amount of time started the gigantic turd of a day. Now something that I was expecting/needing to be done early next week just got thrown into complete chaos and pushed back until March or April by a simple 3 sentence email.
