Mind control rays cost money

 

F-35 (even with the cost overruns), hypersonic, missile defense, ships, space force, etc are all good and needed things and they cost money, but the waste and duplication of effort is staggering. The DoD like the rest of the government is a massive collection of fiefdoms. Naturally, no one wants to lose what they have or shrink so the end result is people scraping off money to sustain teams that do very little or things that make no damn sense. In and of themselves the waste is relatively small (may as high as a few million), but collectively it adds up.

 

The other problem is the outsourcing of system R&D completely to OEMs in the late 80's and through the 90's. Since the government only has usage rights and not the data rights to half their equipment, they can't modify or repair systems without going back to the OEMs and paying a big fee. My group does a lot of work reverse engineering systems just so the Army can internally sustain and repair their own equipment. The pendulum is slowly swinging back (there's a happy median somewhere), so that the government actually owns the technical data when systems are built and delivered.

 

I agree completely. Why does the Department of Ag have forestry? Why does the Department of Commerce have NOAA? No logical reason to not be in Interior. Waste of money due to duplication and inefficiencies.
