For anyone that didn't already know, there are a lot of similarities between what Tennessee is going through now and what Alabama was recently going through. Fulmer's last four years seem remarkably similar to Dubose's four years at Alabama, Kiffin's tenure in Knoxville and his quick exit resemble that of Franchione at Alabama, and there are a surprising amount of similarities between Dooley and Shula, from the circumstances in which they were hired to their record through two years. Alabama was able to recover by hiring an elite coach. My question is, why can't Tennessee? I'm no saying UT should expect to get someone on the level of Saban, or that Tennessee has to hire someone of that caliber to be successful. I'm simply wondering what advantage did Alabama have that Tennessee won't have? They got lucky to get Saban in particular, but I see no reason why Tennessee can't hire someone that would instantly inspire confidence among the fan base. Any thoughts?
