Yes people kill people, but do we really need easy access

I agree here. We're talking teachers and kids who are less than 50lbs. This would be the worst case possible in confined space.

 

It is possible, but far harder to gain the material without gaining attention.

In general, I agree with droski and would eliminate as many types of guns possible beyond a limited few that serve some reasonable purpose, like hunting. However, I also, thinking realistically, agree with Cardinal here that we've gone past the point of no return, in a lot of ways. We are a culture obsessed with guns and the accumulation of them. The bigger problem, though, is the one of the paranoid society that creates the mindset and environment for one of these situations. Man, fear everything and everyone, it seems.

Anyway, hearing about this stuff today is especially tough. Most school shootings are awful, but the few that are at elementary schools hit the hardest. My son is in 3rd grade and my daughter will start Kindergarten next year. They are the most beautiful creations in the world and I can't imagine the pain it would cause to have something like this happen, nor what might trip off someone to do this act.
