I believe they have too many teams that drags the season out too long and dilutes the talent pool too much.
Yes, yes, and yes. People knock soccer because it isn't "American," but a thing I do love is that there are no breaks except for halftime, substitutions, and injuries. Zero commercials until halftime.
Idiots have been saying that for 50 years about baseball. Yet, the sport gets richer and more people show up at the park every year. See you in 20 years when concussions have killed that homoerotic piece of shit you love so much as a sport.
Actually, I don't these things are all that much of an issue, as a lot of those elements are in American sports. I think the bigger problem is a lack of consistent measurable progress in the course of a game, so it makes it seem like nothing is happening from the American perspective.
When the baby boomers go to that strip mall in the sky, there just isn't going to be many fans left. It's demographics.
they aren't an issue to you, but to an American audience, they are. It's not a quality of play issue either. Americans have proven to be fans of the game, even at lower levels. Hockey is similar, but they move faster, transition ends more quickly and hit, so it's more popular here. I spend more time now with soccer because my daughter is a decent player and her travel team plays constantly. I can appreciate the tactics and strategy of the game, but it misses a lot of elements of the games I find enjoyable to watch.
