If you are making a case for paddling your own children, you have started out strong.

 

That you decided this for every type of restaurant at 12 is really fascinating, and probably diagnostic to whatever [uck fay]ed up disorder it is that dominates your personality. But what about types of restaurants you hadn't visited before until well after 12? E.g. Vietnamese, Ethiopian, Balkan, etc? How do you decide, how many visits/samples does it take, etc?

 

I can tell you that I have not a single favorite anything from any of those places. And that I also have never been to any.

I once ate at an Indian place. They had a buffet. I have eaten Indian once.

I can do without Indian food. I’ve eaten it a couple of times.

 

Okay, what are the types in your rotation that you enjoy visiting?

I guess for me, I have always sought out the "new" and the culturally or geographically specific when possible. As an adult, anyway. But at the age of 12, I think my universe of restaurant types was fast food, Chinese, pizza, American dining, Mexican, and seafood. And I would say in terms of frequency from most to least, in that same order. We didn't eat out much and often lived in small towns. Out west, there is always a Chinese restaurant though.

I think you guys are going to the wrong Indian places. It has been awhile, but the Sitar Indian Cuisine on Kingston Pike was really good.

 

I eat, pretty much only this:

Americanized foods: burgers, brats, pizza, hotdogs, deli sandwiches, preferably clubs, steak, pork chops, chili, rice, duck and risotto

One type of salad: Caesar. Sometimes with chicken

Baked potatoes, with butter and sour cream, cheese and bacon. Nothing else.

Italian: lasagna

Mexican: steak quesadilla. (This also includes Taco Bell)

Chinese: sweet and sour pork, egg roll

Japanese: raw tuna

Seafood: tuna. Cooked or raw. Shrimp, cocktail style

Soup: tomato or chicken noodle

That is pretty close to the only foods I eat.

This is how I order at pretty much any restaurant:

1. Do they have a club sandwich? No, go to 2, yes, order it
2. Do they have a Caesar salad? No, go to 3, yes, order it
3. Do they have anything in the American list? No, go to 4, yes, order it
4. Do they have a shrimp cocktail? No, leave. Yes, order it

 

This is really interesting. So when you go to a Japanese restaurant, you are eating ONLY tuna rolls? This is incredible. I wonder how few people only eat one kind of roll?

 

Completely foreign to me, but I can appreciate the elegance and utility of this system.

 

Until a coworker narked on me, and my wife got grumpy because of cholesterol, I ate 2 hotdogs a day for lunch. For months.

 

Not rolls. Rolls are awful. Nigari, or whatever. The plain fish.

 

You should be the subject of a documentary.

 

What did you put on the dogs?

 

My favorite restaurant is McAllister's. There, I can get a half club and a half Caesar salad.
