It was more of a joke than anything. .. Although were it not for his recruiting it'd be nice if someone took him off our hands.
It's such a silly project, I'm not even sure how one would measure success. I'm sure Texas adds some revenue, but I can't imagine ESPN coming out ahead.
Yeah, I don't know if this makes me any different than the "who ya gonna get" crowd but my thoughts are still "who is doing the hiring." As long as Hart and the booger monster do the picking, I'd be afraid to see who's next.
I have no idea of the interworkings within the AD ... rely on many here for that info. So, how much control did they give Butch over the program? Seems to me that it won't matter who we hire if they don't have the control they need to build the program. Wasn't that a sticking point with Gruden? We all know about the carte blanche that Saban has over his program ... is Butch close to that? Not even close?
Gruden, allegedly, wanted total control, as in answering to no one. Butch does not have as much as that, but he is definitely in a more favorable position than Dooley ever was. Hart's gotten him some power back, although I'm not certain it's as much as what Fulmer had in mid-90s. For as much as I loathe him for the coaching search, Hart will fight for the AD.
That is a great answer ... however, I guess I should ask what it actually means to have "control" as a coach. Which decisions that are not on-field related are out of his control? Assistants? Surely he gets to choose his staff. What other 'control' does he need ... serious question.
Final authority on players admitted. Scheduling His own scheduling (think Big Orange Caravan and such) Basically he wanted to be Coach, GM and President of UT football program is the best way I can describe it.
